The Gardiner Museum in Toronto will host a lecture and gala dinner featuring sustainably-produced food
prepared by chef Jamie Kennedy in an intellectual and culinary feast that will satisfy voracious and
demanding appetites. This is the inauguration of From the Ground Up: Nurturing the Art of Sustainable
Living, a series of annual culinary and educational events at the Gardiner. Renowned chefs Sinclair
Philip and Michael Stadtlander, and Lori Stahlbrand, president of Local Flavours Plus will join
Kennedy to discuss the sustainability of Canada's food supply in the Gardiner Museum's inaugural
annual lecture on Tuesday, September 25, 2007. Following the presentation, guests may enjoy a
sumptuous gala dinner, prepared in the kitchen of Jamie Kennedy at the Gardiner, celebrating the
freshness and flavour of locally produced food and wine.
The inspiring evening of thought-provoking conversation and mouthwatering dishes is certain to
become an edible tradition with proceeds going to the Education Department of the Gardiner Museum,
which supports the participation of more than 15,000 school children from the Greater Toronto Area.
The featured speakers are passionately committed to integrating the principles of sustainability
into all aspects of their culinary work, forging relationships with family-run farms and small-scale
producers who create artisan products from local foods. Such producers will provide the ingredients
for the dinner, which will be created with food and wine grown or prepared within 100 miles of the
Gardiner Museum.
