In late August 2007, Lisa Ekus-Saffer, founder and president of The Lisa Ekus Group, LLC (formerly Lisa Ekus Public Relations and Literary Agency), will be joined by Jerilyn Brusseau, Co-Founder of PeaceTrees Vietnam and winner of the 2005 IACP Humanitarian Award, in leading "Flavors of Vietnam", a delegation of culinary professionals on an exploration of the foods, farmlands and friendships with the people of Vietnam.
The group will travel August 25-September 5, 2007, under the auspices of PeaceTrees Vietnam, an international humanitarian organization dedicated to clearing landmines, planting trees, and creating a safe future for the children and families of Quang Tri Province since 1995.
"Our goal is to experience Vietnam 'through the kitchen door,'" explains Ekus-Saffer. "We want to experience the warmth and friendliness of the Vietnamese people, while learning about their traditional dishes and catching glimpses of their ancient culture."
Guests will explore Vietnam from north to south. In Hanoi, they will meet cinnamon farmers, visit Hoa Sua Culinary School, and meet local chefs in their own kitchens.
In Quang Tri Province, they will visit local farmlands, cook regional specialty dishes, and share stories with the Women's Union and plant trees together.
On the road trip from Hue to Hoi An, guests will enjoy an ocean-side lunch at Lang Co Beach, meet local cooks, visit markets, and relax at the exquisite Furama Resort. In Ho Chi Minh City, the tour will meet local chefs and learn unique qualities of their regional dishes and gather treasures for the journey home.
"It's going to be a meaningful trip", says Brusseau. "Guests will learn to make the traditional foods that have endeared Vietnam's culinary culture to people around the world. They will hear the stories that surround regional dishes. They will create their own lasting memories of new friendships, exciting market places and more.
Space is limited. For reservation or additional information about this affordable, nine-day, eleven-night culinary journey, contact Julie at ETI Travel (800.678.8202) or visit the PeaceTrees Vietnam website, www.peacetreesvietnam.org.
